Far Cry review:5 stars (What a game) - Great fun. If you have high speed internet, you will love the multiplayer gaming. I play it with Kinyo 5.1 surround headphones ($50) and an Audiology 2 zs soundcard.. Surround sound really makes the game fun. Heck, any FPS is way better with surround sound. You need a serious video card and at least 500M memory too. If you have all this, just get the game. You will find yourself coming back to it again and again, even after you have played newer games like Battlefield 2. And it's only to $20 now!
HINT: you can turn down video settings to increase performance, but leave the "special effects" and "water effects" on medium. The special effects on low will not let you see the glint of a sniper, and water effects on low will not let you see people swimming under water. Evertything else can be cranked to low. It will improve your online response time.5 stars (Stunning) - Combining superior graphics, an intelligent AI, challenging gameplay, and a variety of powerful and visceral weapons, Far Cry is one of the best FPS ever created. Be ready for a challenge- this is not an easy game, although it is not as hard as some make it out to be. I played through on medium difficulty without too much trouble. Also, make sure you have a very modern and updated system to play the game on, because it will skip constantly on slower systems. 4 stars (Fun gameplay, good eyecandy, but...) - the voice acting kills the atmosphere just about everytime it pops up.
Over a year after the games come out, you still can't play the game at maximum settings. The physics are good, the weapons are well balanced, and the objectives are challenging. You don't have to kill everything that moves, and like in Thief, snaking is sometimes a REQUIRED order of the day.
This was a great game to tied me over until Half-Life 2 came out, and even with the bad voice acting, it's still worth loading every now and then just to get beat up by the very good AI. |
